Traveling is what makes me feel better. It is good for your physical and mental health as well. As it was one of our first visits to the hill stations, we boys were very excited for it. At first, we didn’t think about giving a name to the group, as we were traveling for the first time together. But, as traveling is seldom a lone experience, we gave it a ‘street’ name for the group, “Tola”. Tola is a word in Punjabi, which means ‘group’.
Our journey began from Lahore, and we were travelling by car. It took us around seven hours to reach Murree. And the very first challenge was to find a parking, and then finding a suitable hotel was on the agenda list. It was a boys’ trip, so the plan was to spend lesser and enjoy more!
It was around 7’o clock when we reached there. It wasn’t cold, as much as were expecting, but still the winds were cold enough to raise the goosebumps. We were hungry so the next task was to select place for dinner. While hundreds of choices were there, but we wanted a place with a bit of ambiance, and yes, budget, it has to be managed always! So, finding around a place that we felt good with, we had Chicken Karahi and Chicken Pulao (all that chicken 😝).
While we were searching for a good place for our meal, we had to go through the Mall Road, which by far experience, mostly feel is the only place to visit in Murree. Mall Road is supposedly the main market for the visitors in Murree. There are shops where you can buy specific hill-side fashioned dresses and linen, shawls, accessories, toys, and much more.
Did I mention that it was my first ever trip to murree? Anyways, later that same night the, hotel manager knocks at our door, and upon answering, informs, “Dear sir, there is Snowfall outside. If you want to come, please do enjoy yourselves here”. It was my dream to see the snowfall and it came true, at my first ever visit! It was making me feel giddy and cold at the same time..
I woke up early the next morning and began an adjourn, to explore my whereabouts, and of-course, the scenic views too. At first, I was unsure which side to follow. Then I decided upon walking towards Kashmir point. In between my walk I tried to capture the mountains standing hard and tall, touching the clouds. I had never seen such mountains in real. They look almost indestructible, and entirely too overwhelming!
Halfway through my exploration, I had to come back, as my Tola decided to go Nathia Gali. It wasn’t that far away from Murree. The journey to Nathia Gali was full of excitement and adventure, as the roads were heavily loaded with snow, and we the challenge of driving the car on height, too exhilarating! Wohooo!
The whole way was a ramp in actual. Snow was all around. It took us 2 hour to reach Nathia Gali. In these 2 hours I had seen the snow which would last my whole life, being a Lahori, and a Punjabi at that. Snow was covering the mountains and increasing their beauty to the extent that I fell in love with the mountains. However can you not, with those hills carpeted with the lush greens and occasional yellows, with the tip covered in sparkling ice, just like a white chocolate dipped pistachio waffle cone! Yummmmmmm……
We stayed there approximately an hour, but that on hour was the most beautiful and memorable hour of my life.
We started our journey back towards the hotel, as it was getting late, and another snowfall was also predicted in the weather reports. We were to leave for Lahore early the next day, and I was already getting nostalgic. We were not just going back, with our money spent and time flown. Were but heading home this time, with the bundles of memories. With newfound peace, relaxation, and friendships, which we will remember, and explore again soon, through the rest of our lives.
Hope you had fun, reading it, as much as I did while writing it.
Until next time…
