Dubai-based beauty and fashion icon Wafa Yahya and the brain behind the beauty and style blog Wafa’s Diary, who was recently featured in Emirates Woman, highlights the importance of Halal products in our daily lives particularly with cosmetics and beauty products.
“Halal literally means ‘permissible’ and it is one of the creeds of morality in Islam, when it comes to Halal cosmetics such as make up, cuticles, serums, lipsticks , etc., — these products should be certified to be free of blood, pork and alcohol. I also encourage women all over the world to use Halal and organic products at the same time, not only this Ramadan but throughout the whole year” says Wafa Yahya.

SidSirus: How can you preserve decency while still being fashionable?
Wafa: I believe in modernity and also modesty. You can be fashionable without disrespecting your beliefs and tarnishing your culture. It is the power to be free to choose your style yet still be fashionable.
SidSirus: What do you think is the relevance of Halal Cosmetics to the 21st century?
Wafa: This is the generation where we are exposed to so many toxins and chemicals that can harm the environment and our body and I think it's high time for us to be conscious for any particular products that we apply on our skin. This is not only for Muslim women but to everyone who values healthy and safety.

SidSirus: What advice can you give to teenagers especially students above 18 years old who enjoys beauty and fashion?
Wafa: Teenager’s skin are more delicate than adults so they need to be more careful in selecting the right products especially cosmetics and make up. I was also a student before and its also one of my passions to always look good and be presentable. This is not a bad matter if it makes you more confident but you always need to be sure that you are safe and secured while enjoying and having fun.
