This season’s biggest interiors story – Tropics – hits stores in a riot of fresh lime greens, statement fabrics and colorful, bright accessories, as Indigo Living unveils its new seasonal trends for Spring 2015.
Botanical prints and vibrant colours are the fastest way to inject relaxed opulence and a touch of easy humour into your living space for spring,” advises John McLennan, Indigo Living’s CEO. “Go totally tropical by mixing blocks of bright colour with bold materials or experiment with a couple of pieces in bold print, keeping other furnishings neutral and pared back. Alternatively, choose subdued palm prints and island-inspired furniture in bamboo or rattan for a relaxed Colonial vibe. There are so many ways to work the trend this season”.
There’s an exciting range of products too, from an exclusively designed, hand-painted jungle cabinet to palm tree-embossed crockery, and cockatoo-printed cushions from Australian brand Bonnie & Neil. Everything is set against fresh white sofas and a range of funky glass tables with a vibrant yellow twist of colour.
If bold and bright isn’t right for you, there is a host of equally exciting alternatives in-store. Mixed Metals are another key spring trend: “Copper, bronze, gold and brass are everywhere this spring, but the combining of different metals to produce an artfully mixed look is one of the defining trends of the season,” says McLennan. “A matched look is not as striking as a mixed one, so experiment with melding different metal accents throughout a room”.
Try hanging a couple of our elegant three or four ring mirrors – to magnify the mixed metals theme – or invest in one of the graceful copper ceiling or standard lamps. There are also glass and metallic tables and bookshelves which will be complemented by a range of shimmering and covetable accessories: lustrous decorative bowls and platters in beaten brass, and cushions in sheeny, soft fabrics.
Other trends in store include the eternally popular East Coast style, but with an updated, fresh colour scheme in indigo blue and white. “Nothing says relaxed elegance better than a Hamptons-style beach house, so choose overstuffed, comfortable sofas, or casual rattan or wicker chairs” says McLennan, who advises keeping things light, breezy and natural by choosing materials such as slubby linen, or recycled wood.
Large silver hurricane lamps – one of Indigo Living’s signature products – are perfect for balcony lighting, and there is a range of other cool and beachy accessories to complete the look, such as elegant ribbed glass vases, blue and white ceramic ginger jars, and a range of coral-inspired wall prints.
Fashions are swiftly evolving when it comes to Modern Chinoiserie interiors, but one of the most on-trend ways to decorate now, according to Indigo Living, is to fuse a few traditional pieces within a bright, light contemporary setting.
